How to Select the Right CH/GH/GV Gear Motor – A Practical Guide for Engineers

Selecting the right gear motor for your application requires matching three critical parameters: power, torque, and reduction ratio. Here's a practical framework for CH/GH/GV series selection.

Step 1: Determine Required Output Speed

Calculate the output speed (RPM) your application needs. For a conveyor example:

  • Belt speed required: 0.5 m/s

  • Drive roller diameter: 100mm (radius 0.05m)

  • Roller circumference: 2π × 0.05 = 0.314m

  • Required shaft RPM = (0.5 ÷ 0.314) × 60 = 95.5 RPM

Step 2: Calculate Reduction Ratio

Reduction Ratio (i) = Motor Input Speed (RPM) ÷ Required Output Speed (RPM)

  • Motor rated speed: 1400 RPM (50Hz)

  • Required ratio = 1400 ÷ 95.5 ≈ 14.7:1

  • Select nearest standard ratio: 15:1

  • Step 3: Verify Output Torque

Output Torque = Motor Torque × Reduction Ratio × Efficiency

  • Motor torque ≈ 5.1 N.m

  • With 15:1 ratio and 92% efficiency:

  • Output torque ≈ 5.1 × 15 × 0.92 ≈ 70 N.m

Step 4: Choose Mounting Configuration

Application RequirementRecommended Model
Floor-mounted, horizontal shaftCH / GH (Foot-mounted)
Machine frame, vertical shaftCV / GV (Flange-mounted)
Space-constrained, direct motor couplingGHM / GVM
Dual-direction outputGHD / GVD

Step 5: Consider Environmental Factors

●Temperature: -10°C to +40°C operating range

Dust/moisture: IP54/IP55 protection standard

Frequent start/stop: Specify electromagnetic brake option

Low noise spiral gear motor
