How to choose WP series reducers?
WP series cast iron worm gear reducer is widely used in heavy-duty industries like material handling,
mixing, mining and packaging. Follow these 4 easy steps to pick the right model for your machine,
no complex calculations needed.
Step 1: Confirm your required output speed
First, check how fast your machine needs to run. Most customers use a standard 4-pole motor (1400rpm). You can get the total ratio directly with this simple formula:
Total Ratio = 1400 ÷ Required Output Speed (rpm)
For example: If your conveyor needs 7rpm, the total ratio is 1400 ÷ 7 = 200.
Step 2: Match the correct torque
Make sure the reducer can handle your load safely.
●Check the actual torque your machine needs
●Multiply it by a 1.2~1.5 safety factor (use 1.5 if your machine starts and stops very often, or has heavy shock load)
●Pick a WP model whose rated output torque is higher than this final value.
Step 3: Pick the right installation style
WP series supports 3 common installation types to fit your site layout:
●Foot-mounted (WPA/WPS/WPD) : Horizontal installation, fixed on the base with bolts, most popular for conveyors and mixers
●Flange-mounted (WPO/WPDA) : Flange connection, no extra foot needed, saves space for vertical or compact layout
●Double-stage (WPWED) : For super low speed and very large torque, total ratio up to 900.
Step 4: Match your motor and interface
WP series uses standard IEC motor flange, which fits most global brand motors directly.
●Confirm your motor power is within the reducer’s allowed input power range
●Check the input shaft diameter and flange size, make sure it matches your motor shaft perfectly.
