WP Series Cast Iron Worm Gear Reducer – Lubrication & Maintenance Guide

WP Series Lubrication & Maintenance – Keep Your Reducer Running

Proper lubrication and regular maintenance are essential for the WP series cast iron worm gear reducer to ensure smooth operation, prevent premature wear, and extend service life

Lubricant Selection

Use specialized worm gear oil (such as synthetic extreme pressure worm gear oil) instead of ordinary industrial gear oil. Viscosity selection by ambient temperature:

TemperatureRecommended Viscosity
Below 10°CISO VG 150
10°C – 40°CISO VG 220
Above 40°CISO VG 320

Oil Change Schedule

1.First oil change: After 400 hours of initial operation

2.Subsequent changes: Every 4,000 hours or 6 months (whichever comes first)

3.Never mix different oil types or brands

Oil Level Check

Maintain oil level at the center line of the oil window (approximately 1/2 of the worm gear radius).

Check regularly and top up as needed. Do not overfill – excessive oil increases resistance and heat.

Keep It Clean

Keep the reducer exterior clean – remove dust and dirt promptly to ensure proper heat dissipation.

Regularly check seals for aging or leakage.

Important Reminders

●After adding oil, tighten the top breather and remove the small cone plug before startup

Drain and flush the gearbox with suitable detergent before using a different oil type

For high-speed operation (sliding speed >10m/s), use forced oil injection lubrication
