WP Series Torque – Making Sure Your Machine Has Enough "Muscle"

Torque is the turning force your reducer delivers to your machine. If torque is too low, your machine won't have enough "muscle" to do its job. If it's too high, you're wasting money on an oversized reducer.

The Simple Rule

The reducer's rated torque must be greater than your load's torque requirement.

Think of it like this: if you need to lift 100kg, don't buy a hoist rated for only 50kg. Same principle

How to Calculate Output Torque

Here's the simplified version:

Output Torque ≈ Motor Torque × Reduction Ratio × Efficiency

Step 1: Motor Torque

Motor torque = (9550 × Motor Power) ÷ Motor Speed

For a 2.2kW motor at 1450 RPM:

Motor torque = (9550 × 2.2) ÷ 1450 ≈ 14.5 Nm

Step 2: Apply Ratio and Efficiency

Output Torque = 14.5 × 50 × 0.75 ≈ 544 Nm

(We use 0.75 or 75% for efficiency – worm gear reducers typically have 60-85% efficiency)


Don't Forget the Safety Factor

For real-world conditions with shocks or vibrations, multiply by 1.2 to 1.5.

Final required torque = 544 × 1.3 ≈ 707 Nm
