Guide to Choosing Gear Motor Product Matching for Communication
H1:AC Gear Motor Selection Guide: Constant Speed, 3-Phase, Brake Speed Control Options
Part 1: Product Assortment — Motor Configurations
Based on our product matrix, there are five primary configurations to choose from, depending on your voltage, speed control, and braking requirements.
H2:5GU-30RC gearbox Configuration Options
| Configuration | Features | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Constant Speed Motor (Without Brake) | Fixed speed, simple operation, requires a capacitor. | Conveyors, fans, pumps, basic automation. |
| 2. Three-Phase Motor (220V/380V) | High efficiency, low maintenance, no capacitor needed. | Continuous industrial production lines, heavy-duty machinery. |
| 3. Constant Speed Brake Motor | Fixed speed with an electromagnetic brake for holding. | Lifting equipment, indexing tables, vertical lifts. |
| 4. Speed Control Motor + Controller | Variable speed operation via an external controller. | Packaging lines, conveyor speed matching, mixing. |
| 5. Speed Control Brake Motor + Controller | Variable speed with holding brake for precise positioning. | Automated storage/retrieval systems, complex packaging, high-safety vertical motion. |
As shown in the product image, the motor body pairs with a right angle gearbox (model 5GU-30RC).
5 = 90mm frame size
GU = Reinforced helical gear
30 = 30:1 gear ratio
RC = Right Angle Hollow Shaft
H3:Micro gear motor/common problems with gear motor
Q1: Can I add a speed controller to a constant speed motor later?
A: No. Speed control motors (R type) have a different internal winding structure. You must purchase the speed control motor version from the start.
Q2: What is the difference between a constant speed brake motor and a speed control brake motor?
A: Both have brakes. The difference is that the speed control brake motor can vary its RPM, while the constant speed brake motor runs at a fixed speed.
Q3: Can a 3-phase motor be used with a brake?
A: Yes. Three-phase brake motors are available. They are often used in heavy lifting applications where a VFD provides speed control and the brake provides holding force.
Q4: What controller is recommended for the speed control motor?
A: The US-52 speed controller is a common, reliable choice. It features a potentiometer for manual speed adjustment and a switch for forward/reverse/stop.
