What is S Series Helical Worm Gearbox? – Right Angle Self-Locking Speed Reducer

S Series Gearbox – Definition

S Series gearbox is a right-angle helical worm gear unit. It combines a helical gear stage (first stage) with a worm gear stage (second stage). The input and output shafts are perpendicular (90°) to each other

Key difference from plain worm gearbox: The added helical gear stage significantly increases efficiency compared to pure worm gear units.

Common names: Helical worm gearbox, S series speed reducer, right angle worm gearbox, S series geared motor.

Self-locking capability: When the worm lead angle is smaller than the friction angle, the gearbox achieves self-locking – preventing reverse rotation after power loss.

Typical applications: Mixers, packaging machinery, conveyors, elevators, agitators, and material handling equipment

For example, in the field of wind power generation, it is used in the transmission system of wind turbine elevator hoists. In the field of robot automation, S series reducers (such as S79 model) are applied to palletizers, unstacking machines, pallet warehouses and other equipment
