Scraper conveyors are widely used in coal mining, coal preparation plants, and power plant deslagging. Material is dragged by scraper chains in a trough. Operating conditions are heavy loads, high impact, and frequent starts, requiring gearboxes with excellent impact resistance and high starting torque.
Key Selection Factors: Choose heavy-duty hard-tooth gearboxes with adequate frame size to handle peak loads. Ratios are typically large (20:1–40:1) for chain speeds of 0.5–1.2 m/s. Backstops are essential to prevent reverse slip, and hydraulic couplings or soft-start devices are recommended for protection.
