IP65 rated gear motor IP67 waterproof gear motor
I. What does IP mean?
IP stands for Ingress Protection, an internationally recognized protection rating standard (IEC 60529)
used to indicate the dust and water resistance of the enclosures of electromechanical products
such as motors, reducers, gear motors, and control cabinets. It consists of two digits:
First digit: Dust resistance rating, preventing solid dust and particles from entering the interior.
Second digit: Water resistance rating, protecting against dripping, spraying,
immersion, and high-pressure water jets.
II. First digit: Dust resistance rating (0–6)
0: No dust protection
1: Blocks solid objects with a diameter > 50mm (hand contact)
2: Blocks solid objects > 12mm (fingers)
3: Blocks solid objects > 2.5mm (tools, wires)
4: Blocks small debris > 1mm
5: Dustproof, small amounts of dust can penetrate without affecting equipment
operation (commonly industrial grade)
6: Completely dustproof, dust cannot enter (standard on high-end reducers/motors)
III. Second digit: Water resistance rating (0–8) IP Rating (Level)
0: No waterproof protection
1: Vertical drip protection
2: 15° tilt drip protection
3: Protection against 60° water spray and light rain
4: All-around splash protection
5: Low-pressure water jet washing (workshop washing, corresponding to IP65)
6: High-pressure water jet (car washing, heavy washing)
7: Short-term immersion, soaking in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes (IP67 standard)
8: Long-term continuous deep water immersion (for underwater equipment)
IV. Explanation of the most commonly used IP ratings in the electromechanical industry
IP54: Ordinary indoor gearbox, dustproof and splashproof, for use in dry workshops
IP65: Full dustproof + high-pressure spray protection, suitable for food machinery
and production lines, can be directly washed on the surface
IP67: Full dustproof + Short-term underwater immersion, suitable for outdoor,
car wash, and humid/corrosive environments, with a higher sealing rating.
IP68: Underwater-specific gear motor, suitable for pools and underwater equipment.
IP65 protection-rated gear motors and IP67 waterproof gear motors are dustproof, splash-proof,
and submersible gear motors suitable for industrial automation fields such as food processing,
outdoor applications, and cleaning.
Still struggling to choose between an IP65 protection-rated gear motor and an
IP67 waterproof gear motor for harsh working environments?
IP65 gear motors completely block dust and splashes, suitable for
general humid working environments, conveyors, and packaging lines.
IP67 waterproof gear motors feature reinforced double-layer silicone
seals and a fully sealed housing, capable of withstanding immersion
in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes,
making them ideal for frequent high-pressure washing,
car washes, and outdoor equipment.
The helical gear structure ensures high efficiency, stable output torque, and low noise.
The alloy corrosion-resistant housing supports AC motors and brushless
DC servo motors, and offers a complete range of custom gear ratios and flanges.
Suitable for industries such as food machinery, agriculture,
water treatment, and outdoor automation, with a long service life.
IP65 rated gear motor only resists water jet washing,
while IP67 waterproof gear motor supports temporary underwater
immersion for harsh washdown and outdoor automation scenarios.
