Worm gear drives generate significant sliding friction – high ambient temperatures accelerate lubricant breakdown and seal degradation-54
Recommended Configuration:
Lubricant: ISO VG 460 or 680 synthetic worm gear oil – lasts 2-3× longer than mineral oil, viscosity drop ≤10% at high temperatures-54-
Seals: Fluororubber (FKM) oil seals – withstands ≥120°C-54-
Cooling: Forced air cooling (≥5m³/min fan) when ambient exceeds 60°C – reduces housing temperature by 10-15°C
Key selection criteria for NMRV series reducers:
Standard working range: -10 ° C to+40 ° C - Use factor needs to be adjusted above 40 ° C
Environmental temperature 40-50 ° C: Multiply the usage factor by 1.3-1.4
Environmental temperature 50-60 ° C: Multiply the usage factor by 1.5-1.6
Above 60 ° C: requires special material sealing
Critical Considerations:
Install in well-ventilated location – away from heat sources
Reduce worm input speed below 1,400 RPM to minimize additional heat generation
Consider cast iron housing (sizes 110-150) for better heat capacity
